3rd Annual Sharkfest Swim

The Waco Sharkfest Swim will consist of 3 distances: 1K, 2K and 4K swims in Lake Brazos through downtown Waco in the heart of Texas.  All swims will start and finish at Indian Springs Park. There is minimal current in this section of the Brazos River, as there is a dam at the downriver end of Lake Brazos. Water temperature is anticipated to be in the upper 70’s and wetsuits will not be allowed.  Lifeguards will be positioned along the course and swimmers are never more than 50 yards from the shoreline.

PLEASE NOTE: This swim is not for novices. This event is for experienced open-water swimmers only. You should be able to swim one mile comfortably in a pool in under 40 minutes.

Kayak For A Cause

It’s the final event for the 2019 Kayak for a Cause benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Waco. The race will begin at the McLane Stadium Lagoon boat slips and proceed towards Brazos Park East or LaSalle Bridge (depending on the course). The designated bridges will be labeled as the turnaround points to get back to McLane Stadium. The short course is approximately 1.5 miles long and the longer route is 3.0 miles. There will be non-monetary awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Competition Kayak (3.0 Mile), Leisure Kayak (1.5 Mile) and Paddle Board (1.5 Mile) divisions.

No charge for spectators. $25 to race. Registration can be found here.

Brew at the Zoo

Join the fun at Cameron Park Zoo’s 8th Annual Allen Samuels Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Fiat Brew at the Zoo presented by JRBT on October 19, 2019. Stroll the zoo from 6 to 11 pm. Your ticket includes a tasting mug and samples of up to 20 different beers from around the world. All of your favorite animals will be out in their habitats from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The party continues with great music from Haywire and dancing under the Zoo’s pavilion. Food from some of your favorite Waco Food trucks and beverages will be available for purchase. Proceeds from Brew at the Zoo help to take care of the animals that call Cameron Park Zoo their home.

Join the Carleen Bright Arboretum for the annual Children’s Garden Fair! There are 24 stations run by Master Gardeners with the aim of educating children in a fun and entertaining way. There will be everything from a scarecrow contest to a scavenger hunt! Enjoyable for all ages, the Children’s Garden Fair helps cultivate an understanding and love for gardening and nature!
